LOVIN' the SOUTH WEST,Kid style

 My good friend was not feeling well and asked me to take over her class for the day.
It was such a great day....we had a Mother's day brunch(YUM) and she had amazing art pieces all over her room. Her students were a joy to be around too!!
 Here are a few,PLUS some other goodies from another class I visited.

1st grade water color and crayon.

Totem Poles colored and rolled up,"animal" skins from paper bags crumpled and crayon drawings, and teepee tents
made with beans put on an outline.
Kinder and 1st grade projects.

Weaving! You can do this in 2nd and 3rd grades.

Cute Turtle and bugs!!

This cute turtle was thought of by the "Ready,Set, Go " crew!!
They found an apple box and cut up the inside,added a half foam ball
painted it and VOILA ...a cute turtle!!

Save music in the public schools!!!

My hubby donated his time and went to work with me!!

 So sad that they are taking music out of the schools. I feel it's just as important as math,science,and history. Music is mathematic, it IS history(Beethoven,Bach,Mozart) and the science of producing a sound or making a new instrument IS scientific! SO why are music and the arts underdogs and cut out of the school programs??

 PETER AND THE WOLF- Fun music lesson!
This is my favorite unit to teach my students. I take a few weeks to teach the 4 families of the orchestra and the instruments. The teachers will have the students color the page with the characters of Peter and the Wolf and put sticks on them , making them into paper puppets. THEN we watch my favorite animation of "Peter". Children REALLY get into this!

We make paper puppets and keep in this little folder. Great idea from one of
my teachers. Then we take them out,place in front of us and watch the cartoon.
They will hold up the  characters as they hear the instrument corresponding to the
character. ( template below)
